My 15-Day Capsule Packing Guide

Packing for a two-week trip is complicated. Of course, I want plenty of options. But I do not want to be lugging around an overpacked suitcase. My tendency is minimalist. I have assembled what to pack for Sweden & Denmark using one medium-size checked luggage, a carry-on, and a weekender bag.

Packing in the Past

On our first European trip, my two daughters and I were like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. One of us overpacked and filled their suitcase with anything and everything. The other brought a medium size suitcase with curated outfits. I was in between. We would all agree that the one who packed curated outfits made out the best. Several trips later, we’ve got it down to a science. Check out my packing tips to make traveling less complicated.

Swedish & Denmark Fashion

Fortunately for me, Swedes and Danes have a casual style. They lean toward neutral colors, which is great for my capsule packing. I know it sounds boring, but I’ve added in some blues. And all of my items can be mixed and matched. I expect there will be rain which is standard for the fall. But I am truly looking forward to the cooler temperatures.

Tips to follow:

  • Don’t bring your most oversized suitcase. That is too tempting to overpack. Bring a packable backpack or duffle bag if you plan on shopping while on vacation.
  • Stick to a specific color palette that allows you to mix and match. For my trip to Sweden and Denmark, I am going with black, white, beige and blue.
  • Do not pack any pieces that cannot be used with multiple outfits. There are some clothes I considered bringing but knew would only be worn as a single outfit, something I was determined to avoid.
  • Create a packing style list. I start months in advance by combing through Pinterest for outfit suggestions. I put all of the looks in a separate folder.
  • Try to limit the number of shoes and handbags you bring. I try to stick to one pair of sneakers, one pair of boots, and two pairs of loafers. Although stylish, I do not bring shoes that are not functional, especially if walking through cobblestone streets.
  • Pick items that can be layered. For me, this starts with a tank, a cardigan, a jacket, and a scarf.
  • Bring a Weekender or carry-on with some outfits for the first few days, just in case your luggage goes missing.
  • Limit your jewelry, belts, and handbags.

Jewelry & Accessories

When I travel, I limit the jewelry I bring. I have multiple ear piercings. Right now, I love the look of Huggies in all my piercings. I wear my better earrings daily but brought some costume hoops for a change. But since the weather will be cooler than I am accustomed to, I will need to pack scarves and gloves.

Apple Watch and bands – I have the series 3 watch, an older model but works. By bringing an assortment of bands, I can dress it up or go casual.
