Don’t forget dear old dad!
My sister and I are daddy’s girls but not in the way you would think. We grew up playing sports and having him as our coach. He would bake cookies with us, rough house with us and talk to us in the same way he would talk to my brother. That was until we were teenagers wearing makeup, dressing in what he would consider too short dresses and skirts and showed an interest in boys. Then he became a protective dad.
No matter the relationship, the one thing my brothers and I had in common is that we have a very limited budget when it comes to picking out a Father’s Day gift. Many college students are in the same position. So we pooled our money together to come up with one great gift.
We’ve always managed to be as creative as possible when it comes to gift ideas – not the cliched necktie and toolkit (although those make great gifts too if that’s what dad loves) and here we share some of those ideas below.
One of the cool things we grew up doing as a family was going to sporting event or concert. Our dad loves country music, so we would find great deals on tickets at an outdoor arena. Check StubHub for some great deals. You can also check Groupon for some fun things to do from Brewery Tours and Tastings to SeaWorld and even charter fishing trips.
Our dad loves to golf, so we try to be creative in making him his own golf basket. We fill it with golf tees, golf balls, a golf glove, golf divot tools and even a round of golf or lessons which we can find discounted on Groupon.
A new golf shirt (with our college logo) is always a great gift too. Click here to find his favorite college or professional apparel. Macy’s has some great men’s golf polo shirts starting from $24.75.
Whether it is following and supporting his college alma mater, our college team or his favorite professional team, you can’t go wrong with some sports apparel. One of our favorite gift ideas that my brother, sister and I can pitch in for is a Father’s Day Fanchest. His favorite professional team is the NY Giants, but they have other Father’s Day fanchests for his favorite sports team. Each one comes with 5 officially licensed Giants Merchandise and a Golden Ticket where he may win VIP experiences signed Memorabilia and more.
Clothes & Accessories
Our dad collected many things; one of those were sunglasses. So when we were short on ideas (which you should not be with this great gift list), we knew we could always fall back on that. Ebags has Under Armour sunglasses that you can get 20% off right now.
Another great gift idea is crusher tees. We found some perfect ones at Life is Good which are perhaps some of the most comfortable shirts to wear.
Craft Beer/ Etched Beer Glass
Our dad is all about craft beers. One year we headed to World of Beer and picked out 24 different beers adding in an engraved beer mug and an engraved glass block beer cap holder. Perhaps getting him a subscription to a Beer of the Month Club or a Beer Brewing Kit? Groupon has some great deals on beer gifts.
There is something about giving dad a kiss on his cleanly shaved and groomed cheek. A monogrammed Leather Dopp Kit makes a great gift. Ebags has some great shaving kits as well. You may think of Ulta Beauty for women, but they have some great shaving items. Don’t forget to ask mom for her coupon to Ulta for additional savings. Macy’s carries The Art of Shaving Kits priced from $30.00.
I don’t know about you, but our dad is a tech geek. From the latest wireless headphones to the google home to a Fitbit, he is always looking to show off his latest tech finds. Dad may love a docking station for all of his gadgets.
Another great gift item is a leather phone case. Our dad used to get upset with us when he would get a glance at our cracked phones. I think we all secretly laughed when he dropped his caseless new iPhone and cracked the screen since he was certain we were the only ones that did that.
You can find some great, affordable gifts for dad by being a little creative and shopping around.
