Intramural and Club Sports

You Can Still Play Club Sports in College

UGA is known for it’s amazing SEC sports, but what most people do not know is that the University has tons of different intramural and club sports that can keep you playing the sports you love on a more manageable schedule and less intense level.

Intramurals are super fun, competitive, low-intensity sports that allow you to play with your team without the pressures that club sports sometimes create. The in-person sports offered for fall 2020 are billiards, pickleball, table tennis, badminton, cornhole, tennis singles, and golf. The electronic-based sports for fall 2020 are Madden, Mario Kart, NBA 2k20, Rocket League, Street Fighter, Sports Trivia, Super Smash Bros, League of Legends, FIFA, MLB The Show, and UFC. These can be played on Xbox One and PS4 for this year and you can sign up for in-person tournaments or online gaming.

To participate in these sports, you must pay a $25 fee per semester to receive an Unlimited Play Pass, and after that, you can sign up for any Intramural Sport for that given semester. But, if you choose to continue doing these sports semester after semester, you will have to pay the fee each semester. If you choose to make your own team, you must go through a specific process to make sure you are registered and have claimed all of your teammates, your name, and your logo. Many fraternities, sororities, clubs, small groups, and friend groups participate in these intramural sports to get closer to one another and relive their glory days of high school sports and competing with friends and peers at UGA.

Club sports, on the other hand, are more intense, coached sports that travel and play other University club teams. UGA offers 43 different men’s and women’s club teams that usually host tryouts and are more rigorous and require more talent and skill than the Intramural sports offered here. These sports require more commitment, both time-wise and financially, and are a way for great athletes to continue their journey while in college. Club sports at UGA have their own complex out on South Milledge Ave across from the Botanical Gardens where practices, scrimmages, workouts, and tryouts are typically held. While club sport athletes are not eligible for athletic scholarships at UGA, they do receive perks, gear, and travel from alumni donations. Both of these athletic-based experiences are great ways to stay fit and enjoy team comradery while in college. We definitely recommend trying out for club sports or signing up for intramurals if you miss the competition and team unity from high school sports.
