When Will Financial Aid Money Disburse?

The time has come to pay for your college costs and money panic sets in. If your student is in-state, chances are you are waiting for HOPE or Zell Miller to set in and take care of your child’s tuition. To be eligible for this, your student must have achieved specific test scores and a specific GPA in high school, but they also must fill out the FAFSA Student Aid form. If this is not done, your student will not receive HOPE or Zell and also will not qualify for any Financial Aid from the State of Georgia.

The University of Georgia has a payment website known as Athena that allows students to apply for Financial Aid and loans directly through the Office of Student Financial Aid. The Athena student portal will show students their awards for the different school years and allow students to accept or deny Financial Aid given to them by the University. Most UGA loans are interest-free until graduation and therefore give students the opportunity to pay them back at the lowest rate.

There are tons of different loans available via the Office of Student Financial Aid that are specific to your students’ needs and their year at UGA, as well as if your student is an undergraduate or graduate student. There are also different grants, loans, and scholarships available to undergraduate and graduate students on a need by basis.

Aside from loans and grants available to students by both UGA and the FAFSA, there are tons of scholarships that are available. Our Searching For Scholarships blog is a great tool to use for information regarding applying and achieving scholarships. It is also wise to check local ones available in your area, as well as work-related ones if you work for a big corporation or company that offers aid to student workers. Tuition at UGA can be broken down into two installments, allowing students to defer up to 50% of their current term tuition and fees provided they meet certain criteria.
