What to do When Dad Comes to Visit

Time for some dad bonding time down in Miami! Here are activities, locations, and restaurants ideal for any visiting father and student to have some fun.

  • Crandon Park Beach– Located on Key Biscayne, Crandon Park is great for a low-key beach day. Away from the hustle and bustle of South Beach, Crandon Park is a great alternative for some fun in the sun. This expansive stretch of coast provides a crowd-free atmosphere. An awesome beach for playing frisbee or spike ball.
  • Little Havana– Little Havana is the center of Cuban culture in Miami. Little Havana is filled with delicious restaurants and cool galleries, as well as being the No. 1 place to buy Cuban cigars. Try some Cuban coffee while you enjoy live Latin music!
  • Miami Hurricanes Baseball Game (Seasonal)- From February to May, the top-ranked UM baseball team plays multiple games a week at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field, located right on campus. Catch a game and try the exquisite stadium milkshakes if you get the chance.
  • Monty’s Raw Bar (Coconut Grove)- Monty’s in the Grove is known for its amazing happy hours. With live music and great deals on drinks, this hotspot becomes more popular by the day. The seafood prices during happy hour are unbeatable. Try a PK-3 or some oysters!
  • The Butcher Shop– The Butcher Shop is a fun beer-garden located in Wynwood. Their specialty is burgers and their brunch menu, while small, packs a punch. The Butcher Shop also offers unlimited Bloody Igors (named after the founder Igor Niznik), Mimosas and Sangria as well as a ton of beers on tap and signature cocktails. They also offer home-made sausages and pierogis.
  • Top Golf– Top Golf is fun for the whole family but also the perfect venue for some Father and Son/Daughter bonding. Located in Miami Gardens, the trendy venue boasts a high-tech driving range for all skill levels and a swanky bar with drinks and games. Good for a night out or afternoon activity. Great for when the Miami rain spoils outdoor plans.
  • Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, a National Historic Landmark and museum and a historic estate with formal gardens and sculptures, grotto, and circa-1914 mansion turned museum. The views of Biscayne Bay from the Gardens are unmatched in all of Miami.

If you are 21 or older, hit up some of the breweries closest to UM. These include:

You can even grab your friends and hop on Cycle Party’s Wynwood Brewery Tour to try several of the places above that are in Wynwood.
