Grocery Stores at UNF for quick meals

A Kids Gotta Eat!

On-campus or off, meal plan or not, your child will need to get groceries at some point and time.  UNF has many shopping options right around campus. Our first choice would be Publix. For groceries, those of you from Florida or Georgia will be familiar with the major supermarket chain Publix. Publix is a Florida-based supermarket with every department found in most grocery stores including produce, deli, meat, canned goods, seafood, frozen foods, flowers, bread, soda, and stationery, candy, dairy and so forth.  They offer fully prepared meals, as well as meals that are measured, seasoned and ready to be cooked via the directions on the package.

There are 3 Publix stores within 5 miles of the UNF campus.

Other Stores

Besides Publix, the other grocery stores that you will find near campus Walmart, Winn Dixie and Target SuperCenter. Trader Joe’s is a little bit further away from campus. Trader Joe’s has fresh produce and a lot of products that are branded items. There are a few other grocery stores that are close to campus, however, these stores are smaller, convenience sized stores.

If they are willing to drive further, Fresh Market is also about 20 miles from campus with 3 locations to choose from. Fresh Market is a bit of a gourmet market that offers excellent fresh cut meats, poultry, and fish as well as a full wine department. If you are up for the drive either store is an excellent destination.

BJ’s is also in Jacksonville.  If you aren’t familiar with BJ’s, it is a membership only wholesale store.  It is well worth the small annual membership fee to get items at a great price.

One of the newest stores closest to UNF is Sprouts.  Sprouts is brand new to the Jacksonville area and boasts an abundance of all natural and organic products and produce, as well as a very large salad bar, sandwich bar, and pre-made meal section.  Sprouts definitely seems to be a hit with UNF students (at least with my daughter!)

Apps

Have your students download the apps for any of the grocery stores that offer them. Both Publix and Walmart apps have digital coupons. Taking a little time to check off the coupons they may use saves them, and possibly you, some money. Walmart also offers a rewards program that they can manage through the app. The rewards program offers another way to build up points and save money. Publix also sells a two-part gift card that you can load from your local Publix onto your student’s gift card. It is another option if your student buys most of their groceries at Publix.

Can’t make it to the grocery store? Shipt will deliver their groceries right to them (for a fee, of course). And, there is also Instacart which delivers from Publix, Whole Foods, Costco, CVS and more.
