The Journey Begins
Boarding the Glacier Express to Interlaken was like stepping into a postcard. The two-hour ride offered jaw-dropping, panoramic views of the Swiss countryside at no extra cost. The excitement grew as we neared Interlaken, our home for the next four days.
The Perfect Home for Four Days
Interlaken is nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland, It would be our gateway to the stunning villages of Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and Mürren.
Luxurious Stay at Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa
Our accommodation, the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, was the epitome of luxury. We watched hang gliders and paragliders from our room soar against the majestic Swiss Alps. The hotel has elegant rooms, top-notch amenities, and the most beautiful indoor pool I’ve ever seen. After booking soothing massages at their spa, we felt completely rejuvenated.
Culinary Delights
The Victoria-Jungfrau Hotel offers an array of dining options:
- La Terrasse Brasserie: Casual dining with stunning mountain views and beautiful decor.
- Radius by Stefan Beer: A Michelin-starred experience featuring locally sourced ingredients. We ordered their tasting menu, which was delectable and artistic.
- Ristorante e Pizzeria Sapori: We enjoyed delicious Italian cuisine via room service.

Day 1: Discovering Interlaken
Our first day was spent exploring the charming town of Interlaken. The architecture, quaint chalets, historic churches, and delightful shops captivated us. Strolling along the Aare River is enchanting with its unique light green hue.
Day 2: Lauterbrunnen and Mürren Adventure
A 45-minute train ride took us to Lauterbrunnen, a village famed for its dramatic waterfalls and stunning mountain vistas. First, we hiked the Staubbach waterfall path for approximately an hour. Next, we took a gondola to Mürren. This car-free mountain village offered breathtaking views of the Jungfrau. To say we were awestruck by its natural beauty is an understatement. We ate lunch at a local restaurant. Lastly, after walking through the village, we went down via the gondola.
Day 3: Exploring Grindelwald
Though cloudy, the scenic train journey to Grindelwald was a highlight. Grindelwald is a charming village in the Bernese Alps known for its natural beauty and outdoor adventures. We enjoyed hiking, a gondola ride, and thrilling tobogganing in light of the weather.
After that, we visited the Glacier Gorge. The Lower Grindelwald Glacier carved the ravine. Of course, visitors can explore the gorge via walkways. There, you can witness the powerful glacial waters and unique rock formations. Inside the walk, there is what they call a lit-up spiderweb. Plus, you can jump on it within the canyons. We saw a dad with young kids laughing and enjoying. Although we could see that it was safe, knowing there was a considerable drop below did not entice us to try it.
Moreover, you can try the 295-foot freefall between the canyon walls while on a swing. Thankfully, the weather closed this activity. Honestly, it looked terrifying.
Many visitors will take the opportunity to go see Jungfraujoch, also known as the Top of Europe. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate that day. Viewing their webcam, we could see that the visibility was poor. Of course, we were not dressed for walking in the snow either.
