A Tablescape for Memorial Day, Independence Day & Labor Day
Many view America’s summer holidays as long weekends or the beginning and end of the season. Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day are the perfect time to get together with family and friends. To celebrate the spirit of these holidays with meaning and style, I’ve created A Slice of Americana—a timeless, patriotic tablescape that works beautifully for all three occasions.
One Table, Three Celebrations
This setup combines classic American charm with thoughtful touches, and it’s easy to adapt throughout the summer. You can recreate the look in your home or backyard.
Red, White & Blue
The colors center around red, white, and blue. The base is layered with a blue stripe table runner and a Patriotic Burlap table runner. I love mixing patterns and textures.
An option is to use the patriotic stars table runner. White crates add dimension and provide a rustic slice of Americana. Top off the crate with a patriotic serving tray. This set includes four trays, perfect for serving food. I placed some red, white, and blue flowers atop the tray. My go-to for flower arrangements is Trader Joe’s.
Across the runner, you will find red ceramic berry baskets. They also come in white. I filled mine with strawberries and blueberries.
I use the two other crates in the corners. One holds Patriotic Wood Candle Holders with LED and a USA flag pennant in a galvanized tin pail. The other has a patriotic Mason jar I made. You can buy one if you are not interested in crafting. Finally, I scatter Patriotic stars & stripes fabric wrapped balls and Red, White, and Blue Glitter Stars
American Place Settings
IMO, nothing says a slice of Americana more than red and blue bandanas. While they have a storied past, I you’ll see them trending in various colors throughout the years without any context.
Having decided that would be the main feature of the table settings, I also wanted to have layers. I started with Red round scalloped placemats. These can also be used for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or any tablescape with red.
Next, I placed Sophistipue blate Eco-Friendly disposable dinner plates on top of Blue Bandana 9” paper plates. I used blue bandanas as napkins. You can easily make patriotic napkin rings. I used wooden rings and glued red, white, and blue glitter stars from a pick on top.
Finally, Red bandana 7” paper plates are used for appetizers or dessert, and Blue and gold Sorted Plastic cutlery are used for utensils.
Red Solo cups are perfect for cups (followed by a beer pong game).
