“Brunch is breakfast without an alarm.” — Unknown

Athens prides itself on its amazing music scene, Saturdays in Sanford Stadium, and the outstanding food options. If you want brunch, Athens can provide you with tons of options that range from Southern soul food to gluten-free to the sweetest bakery items you have ever had. Here are some of the best and most popular brunch places in Athens!

Big City Bread Cafe: Their menu consists of tons of egg options, an abundant a la carte menu, and fancier plates such as quiche and salmon gravlax. They also have locally roasted coffee always on the menu as well as an amazing case of homemade pastries offered daily.

Dondero’s: Their brunch menu is packed with amazing sandwiches, grit boats, breakfast plates, and a la carte items. They also have an abundance of coffees and pastries to choose from daily.

Heirloom Cafe: They have tons of sweet and savory brunch items on their menu… this is the perfect place if half of your party wants lunch and half wants breakfast

J. Christopher’s: This restaurant is a chain, but is a favorite of most students at UGA and Athens residents alike. They have an extremely extensive breakfast/brunch menu that is definitely guaranteed to hit the spot whether you want pancakes, eggs, and bacon, or a skillet.

Mama’s Boy: This restaurant has 2 locations and is home to some of the best biscuits in Athens. They offer both breakfast and lunch but are only open until 2:30, so make sure you plan to go early because the wait is usually out the door every day.

Mayflower Restaurant: This restaurant is not only famous for its breakfast/brunch, but it is also famous for its being open since the 1940s. Yep, you heard that right! Chances are if your parents or grandparents went to UGA, they ate in this exact restaurant too. It is known for its fabulous Southern food and heartwarming hospitality, and that is a spot-on description for this establishment.

South Kitchen + Bar: This restaurant offers a foodie spin on typical and favorite brunch items, but does it oh so deliciously. They only offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays though, so you should usually anticipate a wait of some sort.

The Grit: The Grit is a vegan/vegetarian restaurant that is 100% meatless, so if you want your brunch to consist of different eggs, veggies, and tofu dishes, this is the place for you.

The Last Resort: Last Resort has a very limited and different brunch menu, so if you are a foodie, this is the perfect place for you, but if you are more on the picky side, this might not be the best option for you!

The Pine: The brunch menu here combines brunch favorites as well as some lunch options for people who are in the mood for a flatbread or a salad. They also offer some fabulous brunch cocktails that are ensured to pair perfectly with any meal on their menu.

The Place: They offer some amazing brunch plates that match up perfectly with the abundance of sides to choose from. The shrimp and grits is an Athens local favorite, as well as any of the brunch cocktails.

The White Tiger: This brunch menu is meat-heavy and southern comfort… It is only served on Sundays, so be prepared for a long line, but I promise it is worth it.
