Athens has quite an abundance of indoor and outdoor activities to make sure you are never bored. On top of all of these fun indoor and outdoor activities, Athens has over 150 restaurants, tons of shops, and exciting nightlife; there is something for everyone here! Some of my favorite outdoor activities range from sightseeing, walking, golfing, spending time in parks.

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a fun, free activity for any time of year!! Perfect for walking, running, swing dancing, or learning! 2450 S Milledge Ave, Athens, GA 30605

The famous “Tree that Owns Itself” is a white oak tree in the heart of Athens, Georgia. While it isn’t much more than a tree with a fence around it, it is something that everyone should see. The cool thing about this tree is that the owner of the property it sits on thought it was so beautiful that he chose to give the tree autonomy. How cool is that? 277 S Finley St, Athens, GA 30605

The Iron Horse is another must-see for anyone in Athens. It is just simply an Iron Horse in the middle of a field, but it is perfect for picnics, stargazing, photo ops, sunset watching,  and more. Also, make sure to check out some of the funny conspiracies surrounding the Iron Horse… at On-Line Athens and Explore Georgia.

The UGA Golf Course is the perfect place to play 18 holes and enjoy the beauty of the Best Golf Course in Athens-Clarke County… If you are a UGA student, make sure to bring your ID to receive the student discount! 2600 Riverbend Rd, Athens, GA 30605

Sandy Creek Park is perfect for springtime, offering up tons of free and rental-related activities that will keep you busy and enjoying the outdoors. 400 Bob Holman Rd, Athens, GA 30607

Athens can experience some extreme heat and some terrible cold, so if the weather is undesirable when you make your visit, there are plenty of indoor entertainment activities that will keep you making memories. There are 3 normal movie theatres in Athens, and one that is an Indie movie theater, all are super cool experiences and have amazing popcorn. Make sure you bring your UGA ID with you when you come because most of them offer a student discount on tickets, concessions, or both!

AMC DINE-IN Athens 12: 1575 Lexington Rd, Athens, GA 30605

Beechwood Cinemas: 196 Alps Rd, Athens, GA 30606

University 16 Cinemas: 1793 Oconee Connector, Athens, GA 30606

Ciné: 234 W Hancock Ave, Athens, GA 30601. This is the theatre that runs first-run indies and smaller release films

Lumberjaxe: 510 N Lumpkin St, Athens, GA 30609. The latest entertainment trend, axe throwing, has been brought to Athens and is loads of fun. My boyfriend and I chose this for our 2 year anniversary date and we had the best time competing, playing games, and learning axe techniques. The coaches here are so knowledgeable and it is a super fun atmosphere.

The Classic Center is a venue in the heart of Downtown Athens that houses ice skating in the winter, and concerts, plays, movies, all year long. It is so fun and a really cool place, you have to come here at least once when in Athens. 300 N Thomas St, Athens, GA 30601

Calendar of Events. Check out the ice skating too.

The Georgia Museum of Art is a perfect way to spend a rainy day. New exhibits and art pieces are always coming in and out of the doors and everything is beautiful! There are pieces from both UGA and non-UGA students on display and this also houses some pretty famous traveling displays throughout the year. Another cool thing is that admission is totally free for everyone. 90 Carlton St, Athens, GA 30602

Athens is one of the best scenes in the state of Georgia where you can watch and listen to live music, so be sure to check out some of these cool places and venues.

Live Wire is one of the oldest music venues here in Athens. You have to check their website for tickets since it is an admission only venue. They have all different sorts of genres of music that play here for different charities, causes, and groups of people. While it is very odd that big names play here, but it is widely known for amazing cover bands. 227 W Daugherty St, Athens, GA, 30601.

The Georgia Theater is one of my all-time favorite concert venues. Tickets for General Admission are usually pretty cheap and there are so many different types of musicians that come to play here. Make sure you read the fine print before buying your tickets though since some concerts here are 18+. Another amazing part of this venue is the rooftop bar. They have musicians there pretty much nightly and it is such a cool place to spend your evening. 215 N Lumpkin St, Athens, GA 30601

The 40 Watt Club is known for being the starting place for many extremely popular bands worldwide: R.E.M., the B-52’s, Pylon, Love Tractor, Vic Chesnutt, Olivia Tremor Control, Five Eight, Neutral Milk Hotel, Jucifer, Drive-By Truckers, of Montreal, The Whigs, Maserati, and others. All shows are General Admission, and you must be 18 to enter the venue at a $2 surcharge, while people 21 years of age and older get in for strictly the price of the tickets. You can buy tickets at the box office or online.

There are also tons of different restaurants and bars downtown that have live music during the week and on the weekends, so just check their social media and websites to see when they will have people playing.
