Alumni Networking, Perks, and More…

Before you know it, you are walking across the stage at graduation and, with that last step, you are an official UGA alumnus. The question is, what does it mean to be an alumnus? Certainly, you will wear your Dawg pride for years to come, but there is more. Right from the start, you will find that alumni from all over want to help each other. Encourage your students to be a part of the UGA Alumni Association for a variety of reasons, but first to network with other members when looking for jobs. I know quite a few people that are more apt to hire a red and black graduate than “outsiders.”

While some schools require an official application and dues to “join” the alumni association, UGA considers all alumni to be members and therefore requires no application and no fees for membership to be “official”. There are over 93 chapters within the United States and over 5 different International chapters that all participate in game-watching parties, networking events, and service days. They also have lots of programs and councils that call for leadership positions, mentorships, and planning of events for Alumni both at UGA and across the country.

Within the Alumni Association at UGA, there are networks of groups that alumni have the option to join. These smaller groups are specific to Women, Black, Student, Youth and are meant to allow people to find like-minded members to get them through careers, interviews, and help them shine overall as UGA alumni.   Another component of the Alumni Association is the blog online that is tasked at keeping everyone informed with other alumni’s accomplishments, UGA news, and events that occur. This is a great way to stay involved and be aware of who is doing what, how to connect with them, and how to spotlight your own achievements as a dawg.

The website provides a calendar of all events for alumni to see what is happening where, as the year goes on, so that it is very easy to connect and see other alum. Joining the UGA Association is a great way to stay plugged in and up to date on all things UGA even after you are able to walk through the Arch. Alumni at UGA are just as important as current students, and the Association makes sure that fact is known and lived up to.

Check social media for alumni pages. Or watch a Georgia game at one of the many places around the country that also love our Dawgs. Don’t forget to wear your Bulldog red and Arch black should you head to an event.
