Desserts, In a Good Way …

Like most college girls, my favorite meal of the day is 100% desserts, and Athens is full of amazing places to choose from. My friends and I go get dessert at least 3 times a week and we try to go to a different place each time. There is really not a bad dessert option in Athens, but each one is different and has a wide variety of dessert options.

Dessert Choices Galore

Alumni Cookie Dough: This place has edible cookie dough that will seriously change your life. They make all of it in house and have tons of different flavor options and usually a feature flavor of the month that changes each month. Truly desserts heaven!

Baskin Robbins: While this place is a chain, they have some of the best ice cream cake and affogatos in Athens. We often come here on Bachelor/Bachelorette Monday to grab a pint of ice cream, a milkshake, or sometimes both.

Bee’s Knees Bakery: This is a little bakery out towards Epps Bridge that has some of the best cupcakes you will ever taste. It also is a great quiet study atmosphere, so sometimes I come out here and grab a box lunch (a sandwich, chips, a drink, and a cupcake) and study in the corner for a few hours.

Ben & Jerry’s: My two favorite guys in Athens, Ben & Jerry…they know desserts, their hours and of course flavors are what makes them so amazing, but they are open until 11 Sun-Thurs and open until 12 Fridays and Saturdays. Ice cream is my favorite pre-downtown snack and satisfies my sweet tooth big-time before a long night of dancing, hanging with my friends, and singing at the top of our lungs.

Bruster’s: This is your regular hometown ice cream place, and it is super consistent with flavors, and they also have some pretty great ice cream cakes.

Bubble Cafe: While Bubble Cafe is not your typical “dessert place”, I come here when I want something sweet but different and not too heavy on my stomach. They have a huge selection of teas, slushes, coffees, and other drinks to choose from. Also, their panna cotta is phenomenal… I recommend pairing it with the Bubble Milk tea and Strawberry Bobo.

CookOut: This place has over 40 different milkshake flavors to choose from, need I say more? And they are open until 3 AM which makes this the perfect place to satisfy your late-night sweet tooth cravings.

Cool World Ice Cream: This is an ice cream shop on the East Side of Athens that is a little lesser-known and more of a hidden gem. From Italian ice, to ice cream sandwiches, to brownies, this place is one of a kind and sure to leave you wanting more.

Condor Chocolates: This place is a local chocolatier and is simply amazing. They have chocolate bars, homemade truffles, and brownies that will have your mouth drooling just at the thought of them. While some people do not consider coffee a dessert, the Mocha from here is the best mocha I have ever had in my life.

Four Fat Cows: This place is full of unique ice cream flavors that are made in house. They change often and are usually super different flavors, but are simply amazing. The fact that this place is within walking distance to most UGA dorms and sorority houses is a blessing and a curse.

Great American Cookies: This is one of my favorite cookie cakes on the entire planet. Their double doozies, 2 cookies with a ton of icing in the middle, are to die for and worth the trek out to the Georgia Square Mall.

Insomnia Cookies: This is one of Athens’ delicacies and something most students cannot live without. They make some of the best fresh-baked warm cookies and are open until 3 am, and if that isn’t good enough, THEY DELIVER. My go-to is the delicious duo with 2% milk, you can’t beat it.

Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt: This is your typical froyo bar that has tons of delicious flavors and what feels like hundreds of toppings.

Nedza’s: This is waffle cones reinvented. Joe Nedza, an Athens local, decided to make a literal waffle and put ice cream on top of it, and instantly he became a famous Athenian in the dessert world. Now, he does not only ice cream scoops and waffles, but he also makes cookie dough and waffles, donuts, and pints of homemade ice cream. This place is one of my absolute favorites.

Pauley’s Crepe Bar: While this place is a restaurant, they are known for their “sweet crepes” which are just fabulous. My personal favorite is the strawberry Nutella, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the options.

Pelican’s SnoBalls: This place is New Orleans shaved ice with a twist. They have over 100 different flavors to choose from and you can add sweet cream, whipped cream, and other toppings to your SnoBall. They are also within walking distance to campus, and on a hot summer or fall day, the line will be out the door with hungry students ready for a legendary SnoBall.

Zombie Coffee and Donuts: They make specialty mouth-watering donuts that will change your life entirely. They have their typical flavors (oreo, maple bacon, vanilla, chocolate raspberry, etc.) and also give you the option to build your own donut. You choose between a chocolate or vanilla base, then move to choose from 9 of their glazes, and then finally top it with whatever you want to make it 100% custom to you. It is an amazing experience and is so delicious.
