What are your plans?
Traditionally, most of us would celebrate our country’s independence by heading to beaches, parks, and enjoying fireworks. And while parks have opened and you can certainly enjoy grill, chill or thrill time with your family and friends, most city fireworks events have been canceled or postponed.
Grill
In lieu of large community gatherings, we can still celebrate America at home. You can grab some patriotic party supplies at Party City including decorations, balloons, tableware, and more. Order online and pick up in-store. Or check out Target’s 4th of July Party Supplies Kit and their Americana Party Collection.
As far as food goes, you can take out from your favorite restaurant or even have your entire menu delivered from Instacart or Shipt. I have a membership to both and what has been so great about it is not only can I use it for my own deliveries, but I have been able to also deliver to family and friends (i have sent a birthday cake, card, candles for friend’s birthdays and my delivery person will even write the message for me). This is a great service to have for delivering to your students too, once they return to school (when they are sick, you can have over-the-counter medicine delivered from CVS and soup from the local grocery store).
If you are planning to barbecue, get some inspo from some of our favorite recipe websites including Food Network, NYTimes Cooking (one of my new favorites), and Food52. End the evening with some great desserts and don’t forget to include popsicles. We’ve got your $1.50 savings on any one Popsicle Fruit Twisters product. Don’t forget the bug spray (save .55 off any one OFF! Product).
Chill
Perhaps having a quiet day at home is more your style. Personally, I love sitting outside and enjoying a great book. I just finished reading Jennifer Weiner’s, Big Summer. I gave my younger daughter my old Kindle so I recently replaced it with my new Kindle. And, the Kindle Paperwhite lets you switch between reading and listening via Bluetooth-enabled speakers or headphones. Sign up for a free 30-day Audible account. ($14.95/month after 30 days).
We’ve got some great book recommendations not only for your young adult but for moms and dads, too. Check out our list of Impactful books. If the weather doesn’t cooperate or you are more into watching some great tv shows, some of our newer favorites (you will have to have Hulu or Netflix for some of these) that I watched with my adult daughters include:
Binge on these…
- Sweet Magnolias (Netflix)
- Grace and Frankie (Netflix)
- Dead to Me (Netflix)
- Never Have I Ever (Netflix)
- The Great British Baking Show (Netflix)
- Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu)
- Dollface (Hulu)
- The Baker and the Beauty (Hulu) (ABC)
Thrill
Perhaps you are heading to the beach to social distance. Make sure you grab some fun summer footwear (and support your favorite sports team) and chair umbrellas, of course, a backyard barbecue includes games. We’ve got you covered with corn hole sets, pop-up table tennis sets, hook and ring games, and more. Enjoy great savings, support your student’s college, and make some great memories. Perhaps your family and friends are as competitive as we are. Have an Olympics-style competition using household items to go with the games we recommend. Click by the school or see college games in general.
