Mother's Day

Mom Life

I have been a mom to two daughters for half my entire life.  It’s a role I cherish. And, I’m fortunate that my mom, who just turned 90, is in decent health. My 93-year-old aunt is a second mom to me and is also healthy. Mother’s Day is about recognizing the influential and special women in my life. My daughters are grown, and both do not live nearby, so getting together for this day is not the simplest. Truthfully, while I would love to spend the day with them, I appreciate any day I get to spend with them. I do not need a holiday for them to show me their gratitude.

But, as they always do, they will make the day special.  I don’t need a gift, but I love their cards. When asked what they want for Mother’s Day, most of my friends only want to have time with their grown children. I am sharing my curated Mother’s Day list to make gifting less complicated. Some are gifts I have received in the past that truly touched me.

It’s the Smaller Things: Unique Greetings

From cards you can design to 3D cards to Mother’s Day cards, a card often goes a longer way than a gift.

This past year, I signed up for Hallmark Crown Rewards. It is free to join (and you get a $5 coupon just for joining). They’ve got great Mother’s Day cards you can ship to the recipient.  Or create your own Mother’s Day card with Canva. They have over 400 designs to choose from. You can personalize the card, including photos. They also have Mother’s Day Photo Book templates if you are really feeling creative. Because what says “I love you, Mom” more than a photo book of mom and her kids? For my 60th birthday, my daughters made me a beautiful photo book filled with my favorite recipes and photos of us cooking together. Blown away doesn’t describe how meaningful and thoughtful this gift was. Mine was made on Shutterfly.

The Greetabl boxes are art-worthy to start and can even be personalized with your photos. They have awesome products priced anywhere from $4 and up. You can also add a gift card to retailers like Starbucks, Target, and Nordstrom. And you get 10% off your first order when you sign up with your email. Fitness Moms

If your mom loves yoga or is into working out, perhaps a new outfit or accessory will be just what she wants. I have been looking at adding a yoga blanket and a bag for my yoga mat. I  like the cork collection from Yoloha. My other go-to’s for athletic wear are Athleta, Fabletics, and Lululemon.

Perhaps a gift card to a local yoga, pilates, workout studio, or spa. I know this can be a sensitive subject, but most moms I know understand the importance of staying healthy.

I’m new to pickleball but also play golf.  Does your mom play tennis? This year, tennis skirts are all the rave for golf, pickleball, or everyday fashion. I recently bought two skirts and two matching polo tanks at Athleta, and I love them. And while I am new to pickleball, I’m not new to wanting to look stylish. This monogrammed pickleball bag may be just the answer.

Moms That Travel

With travel opening up this year, maybe mom has an adventure planned. I know I do in September, and I’m already planning. Call me absentminded, but I am always losing my chargers. This monogrammed leather charger rollup would solve that problem.

Mom's Day

For most of my trips, I prefer having my bag close. Fortunately, belt bags are stylish. I have the Lululemon clean lines belt bag in black and caramel. There are some great new colors too!

Moms That Cook

If you’ve got a mom who loves to cook, they will be inspired with a $40 gift subscription to NYT Cooking. Another great gift I did with my daughters was a cooking class through Sur La Table or Williams Sonoma.  Ours was with Marcus Samuelsson. If Mom wants to add to her kitchenware, take advantage of 20% off at Sur La Table with code MOM20.

Perhaps she needs to replace some pots and pans. There are two that I highly recommend. The first is the Always Pan and Pot. They clean up super easily and are light and PFOAS or PTFES-free. The pan replaces your fry and saute pan, steamer, and skillet. The pot can be used as your stockpot, dutch oven, roasting rack, steamer, strainer, and braiser, including a spoon rest.  Both are oven safe and can be used on regular stovetops, induction, and gas, as well as being oven safe. are currently on sale.  I also recommend the GreenPan Nonstick Cookware Collection from Food52. I have to say, and I love them! These nonstick pans are PFOA-free and metal utensil-safe. And they are oven friendly and work on any stovetop, including induction. Plus, Food52 has some great recipes.

Consider a cookbook from one of mom’s favorite chefs or bloggers. Pair it with a cookbook stand. My most recent cookbook gift is Half Baked Harvest Every Day: Recipes for Balanced, Flexible, Feel-Good Meals by Tieghan Gerard. She is one of the food bloggers I follow, and her recipes are delicious. My daughter’s got me Half Baked Harvest Cookbook: Recipes from My Barn in the Mountains.

Moms That Brunch

Again, if given a choice, I would pass on a gift and enjoy hanging with my daughters for the day. You can make mom feel even more special with a beautifully decorated table with flowers. Cook for mom or go with a meal already prepared. The Fresh Market offers a Mother’s Day package. Last year it included quiche, fruit, and croissants.

Set a perfect table with these sets from Sophistiplate. They even have a Mimosa-themed table setting which includes service for 8. it includes a dinner plate, salad plate, appetizer/dessert plate, cocktail napkins, hand towels (because the bathroom should always match, lol), and Mint & Gold Bella Assorted Plastic Cutlery/24pc, Service for 8. I used their blue and white timeless setting for Passover and was very happy with it. Everything is disposable, but the cutlery can be washed. If you use the link

Last-Minute Gifts

Some of us may not get that gift in time for whatever reason. There’s no shame, but you can still print an e-certificate. Pick a store your mom loves or even grab a gift card at CVS, Walgreen’s, Walmart, or Publix… most retailers sell them for retail stores, restaurants, movies, spas, and more.

If you are out of town, that’s where delivery companies come in. You can grab flowers and a card; perhaps a cake, pie, or cupcake will brighten her day. You can order from your local grocery store through Instacart or Shipt. In my experience, the shopper is always willing to fill out the card for you.

Happy Mother’s Day to All Moms! 🌸🌹🌺
